A heartfelt evening of appreciation was held Monday night to honor Mayor Dale Berry and Alderman Patrick Brown as they prepare to retire from their roles with the City of Magee.
The event began with an opening prayer by Darnell Moffett, pastor to Alderman Brown. Alderman-at-Large Sue Honea welcomed the large crowd in attendance. Members of the Magee Police and Fire Departments presented the flags, and Officer Shane Fewell led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Former Mayor Jimmy Clyde served as the evening’s keynote speaker, offering reflections on the remarkable service of both honorees. Mayor Berry has faithfully served the city for 12 years, while Alderman Brown’s tenure spans an impressive 32 years—beginning his service at the young age of 29.

Aldermen Lawana Thompson, Libby Shivers, Rosemary Stuard, and Jeff Blackwell provided musical entertainment.

Brently Berry, son of Mayor Berry, presented his father with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his service. Alderman Brown was similarly honored with a plaque presented by his close friend, Fontaine McNair.
A special moment of prayer was led by Dr. Ryan Wade, pastor of First Baptist Church of Magee, asking for strength and healing for Mayor Berry, who is scheduled to be admitted to UMMC on Monday, June 23, 2025, as he prepares for a heart transplant.
To conclude the evening, Brother Jack Robinson, chaplain of the Magee Police Department, offered a blessing over the food.
The reception was graciously hosted by the Main Street Magee Committee in partnership with the Magee Chamber of Commerce.
