Congratulations to Magee High School’s juniors Jordan Magee, Brennon McNair, and Chandler Pittman for being selected to Boys State! They were selected to participate in the 77th Annual Mississippi Boys State. They were to be among 400 students that were to be involved in Executive, Legislative, and Judicial operations of state government, as well as city and county operations. Jordan, Brennon, and Chandler were nominated by Magee High School and selected by the American Legion Boys State Department of Mississippi.
Boys State is the American Legion’s program dedicated to strengthening America through strengthening the citizenship of our youth. Through the American Legion’s youth activities program, young leaders are engaged in non-partisan activities that instill a constructive, knowledgeable attitude of our American form of government. Through a learn by doing approach, Boys State participants navigate a week-long program where each participant will hold an elective office of a mythical 51st State with Constitution, Statues, and Ordinances. Participants will learn the duties of city, county, and state officials and will argue and introduce legislative bills. Participants are also eligible for scholarships from the American Legion Department of Mississippi and Posts, Millsaps College, Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi, and University of Southern Mississippi ranging from $500.00 to $40,000.00.
