As part of the State framework, Ms. Gray’s General Music class covered a unit on American music. The group learned about various composers and genres of music, beginning with Native American music and including a study of music of the Colonial Period, ragtime, jazz, American Classical music, and American Popular music. The class collaborated with Mrs. Minter, MHS librarian, as they sought historical information on topics. The class culminated with each student creating an artistic depiction of a particular genre or composer. The class was assisted by ninth grader, Kathryn Chapin, who plans to pursue a career in Art. This project allowed students to showcase talents in various disciplines.
