The Magee Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, for a regularly scheduled meeting. Pastor Edgar Lee opened the meeting with a prayer.
The agenda was approved.
Mayor Mark Grubbs updated the board about progress at the City Park. The project is expected to be complete by the end of September.
He said the striping of Main Street is complete.
In addition, Grubbs told the board that Beauty from Ashes and Voices of Hope had been helping with cleanup around the city and doing a “tremendous job.”
A public hearing concerning the development of the city’s master plan will be held on October 7 at 5:00 p.m.
The claims docket was approved.

Fire Chief David Craft informed the board that he has been conducting ongoing inspections, and “most of them are passing.”

Zoning Administrator Penny Aguirre brought a request from Roma Windham to consider closing 6th Avenue SE, which deadends at Laurel Drive. She told the board it is considered an “unimproved road.”
“It’s just a grassy area,” she said.
The request was made because the owners would like to be able to sell the land as a single parcel.

Windham, who also appeared before the board, said, “There’s no road there.”
City Attorney Wesla Sullivan said, “The city can certainly vote to close that road, but that doesn’t mean they are giving up ownership of that land.”
Windham responded, “I need to know how to make it his.”
Alderwoman Lawana Thompson expressed concern about acting on the issue because the board was not aware of the request before the meeting.

“It’s blindsiding us,” she said. “We don’t know what to do.”
The board decided to table the matter for the time being.

The board authorized the following officials to enforce the city’s codes:
- Davide Craft, Fire Code Official
- Duane Simmons, Building Code Official
- Penny Aguirre, Zoning Code Official.
The board briefly discussed the privilege license renewal of a business in town.
“Because we don’t have the documents we need for renewal, that won’t be renewed,” Aguirre told the board.
The board entered an executive session to discuss personnel.
