On Tuesday, November 17, 2025, the Magee Board of Aldermen approved a proposal that imposes a 90-day moratorium “on the acceptance, processing, or approval of any application related to the construction, placement, or occupancy of tiny homes within the city of Magee.”
The proposal was suggested to the board by Zoning Board Chairman Jim Ball, who told the board, “We feel it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive study of infrastructure impacts, neighborhood compatibility, and best practices for regulating tiny homes in order to develop appropriate zoning standards; and use of a temporary moratorium will allow the city to pause any possible applications or permits related to tiny homes while such study is undertaken.”
The motion also included the following stipulations:
- During the moratorium period, the Zoning Board shall conduct an infrastructure study with the city building inspector, zoning administrator, fire chief, and any other deemed necessary to review neighborhood compatibility issues related to tiny homes, with the goal of recommending zoning standards and regulations.
- The moratorium took effect immediately upon passage and will remain in force for 90 days, unless extended or rescinded by further action of the board.
- The findings and recommendations of the study group will be presented to the Board before the expiration of the moratorium.
- For the purposes of the moratorium, a tiny home will be defined as less than 1,000 square feet.
In other business, Mayor Mark Grubbs expressed his gratitude to individuals and businesses who had helped to decorate the city for Christmas.
Grubbs informed the board that well #4 is still down, and the city is waiting on parts before it can be repaired.

Forrest Dungan of Clearpoint Engineers asked the board to approve a Summary Change Order for the Lamar Road Sewer Extension Project, deducting $5000 from the original cost. The board approved.
The board also approved a final pay request to Greenbriar for the completed project in the amount of $23,645.85.
Dugan told the board the project came in under budget, adding, “It was a successful project.”
Dungan also told the board that Southern Paving still has some items to address on the punch list for the city’s paving project.
The board told the public that the new city park playground is now open and available for play, but it will be closed again for the public’s safety when construction on the fencing begins.
Grubbs asked the board to consider allowing Main Street Magee to store the city’s Christmas decorations in the unused bays at the city’s old fire and police departments. The building is currently leased by Stanley Graves Plumbing, but the bays in question are not being used.
Currently, the decorations are stored in the city barn. Members of the board decided the decorations would be less likely to be damaged if stored in one central location and approved a bid for two manual doors and locks to be installed on the bays to secure the decorations.
The board approved changing the time of its December 2 meeting to 3:30 p.m. due to the city’s Christmas parade.
The board approved the claims docket.
The board approved the adjustment of two water accounts in the amounts of $16.36 and $48.04, due to errors that occurred when the new meters were installed.

Police Chief Denis Borges requested an executive session to discuss personnel matters. He also requested approval for a member of the police force to attend a Warrior Leadership class in Hattiesburg at the cost of $300, which the board approved.
In addition, he requested approval to attend an Internal Affairs Investigation course in Louisiana in March 2026. The course, which costs $445, was approved.

Zoning Administrator Penny Aguirre presented a special event application for a wedding at Ural Everett Park in December. The board approved the application.
With no other business, the board entered executive session to discuss personnel and litigation.
