Magee Board of Alderman Vote to Enforce Curfew

Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, April 7, 2020. Social distancing was observed. The board voted to enforce a curfew starting Thursday, April 9, 2020. The curfew will run from 10 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. Anyone out during this time will be stopped. If an employee is working, proper documentations must be presented.  Most essential workers have been provided letters from their employees or have their badge.  1st offense will be a warning. Second offense will be a fine up to $500.00 and/or 30 days in jail. Be smart and be safe, the curfew will be enforced.

Mayor Dale Berry advised the garbage collection will only take place once a week due to losing the inmates during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Garbage collection days will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Debris and limbs will be collected on Thursday and Fridays.

Mayor Berry reminded a the public City Hall will be closed Friday, April 10, 2020 in observance of Good Friday.

The board approved a culvert project at 11th Ave. The county will help with the project because the West side of the road is county property and East side of road belongs to the city. The county will provide the rocks needed to alleviate washings. The city will provide the labor to install the rocks.

Mayor Berry announced work at the airport is complete.  Planes are now allowed to use the runway.

Mayor Berry updated the board of the progress at the five-way stop with the large main break. Hemphill Construction is handling the repair work. Mayor Berry advised the board the leak was an unforeseen loss and could be costly to the city.

The City of Magee is waiting to announce if a ball season will take place later in the summer. If the ball season does not take place, registered players will have the option to receive a refund or bank the registration fee until next year.

The board approved hiring Britney Walker as a part-time dispatcher and Joseph Welch as a part-time officer.

With no further business, the meeting was recessed until next board meeting Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

    Some workers are essential that are self employed. My husband does HVAC he is his boss. Folks who are hot call in middle of night or those folks know hes busy and will wait for him tp get to their house! This is his busy season! What should he do?
