Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, January 2, 2017 for their regularly scheduled meeting.
Mayor Dale Berry reported during the Christmas Holidays over 1000 wreaths, provided by Total Transport, were given to local citizens. Berry hopes to continue wreath distribution next year.
Cameras have been installed and are operating at the airport.
Mayor updated the status on the water leaks following the cold weather. Before the leaks can be repaired, the city must wait on the call before you dig “811” company. The company is to mark utility lines before any digging can take place. As soon as the lines are marked, the breaks will be repaired. The city cannot move forward until the lines are marked.
During the holidays, the city police department experienced a sewer issue. The problem was caused by a city prisoner who “stuffed and flushed” pieces of a mattress in the toilet causing a back up issue. The prisoner admitted to wrong doing and was charged with Felony Malicious Mischief.
Mayor Berry reminded everyone “bring back the block ride” is scheduled for March 2, 2018.
In other business, Bobby Applewhite was approved to attend water school January 29-February 2, 2018 at a price of $175.00.
The board approved to pay membership dues to the Simpson County Economic Foundation in the amount of $5,000.00
Mayor Dale Berry announced the School Board had agreed to re-title the old elementary school property to the city with the intent to be used for nonprofit gain. Upon completion of the paperwork, the board will vote to accept the property.
With no further business, the meeting was recessed until January 16, 2018.
