Magee Board of Alderman met for their regular scheduled meeting Tuesday, July 18, 2017.

Mayor, Dale Berry, called meeting to order.

The city is working on a new limb and debris removal order that all residents and contractors must follow. Finishing touches and corrections should be made and ready to present at the next board meeting. This is to help eliminate the larger limbs that are being left curbside and city equipment not able to lift and remove without damaging equipment.

Twyla Grant was hired on a contractual agreement for $28 per hour. Twyla was left off the hire list at last meeting in error.

Claims dockets were approved. David Dunn gave a report on the recreation department. Dunn advised 10 tournaments had been scheduled for the next upcoming year. Some of these games will be played in the fall and some in the spring. Dunn advised sign at Sportsplex was on. Ribbon on sign should be working within a week.

Chris Purdum met before board to discuss the new court ruling and changes that were taking place and how new time lines will affect the city. He advised a Public Defender might be the best solution for the board to consider hiring. The board will look into this with the new budget. This is a Supreme Court Ruling and will affect all cities, and counties. This could also affect the city as far as possibly adding an additional court day to the month.

Charlie Valadie, Fire Marshall, introduced himself to the new board and gave an overview of his job and plans. Building Inspector, Joe Worrell, also introduced himself to the board and gave them an update on what projects he had going. Worrell advised the board Loves was ready for operation and would open Thursday at 7 am. Worrell also advised new elementary school was completed with the exception of two small items that would be completed this week. Teachers were being allowed into the school to begin work on their classrooms.

The board decided to rent the old boardroom at city hall for a charge of $100 for any deposition that might need to be done.

The chamber came before the board asking permission to paint a mural on the side of a building downtown Magee that welcomes everyone to downtown Magee. Approval was granted and work was to begin Wednesday.

With no further business meeting went into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
