Tuesday, October 1, 2019 Board of Alderman meeting was open with prayer led by Jered Smith, a junior at Simpson County Academy. Jered is a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council.
The board approved claims Docket, Minutes, and the Loss Water report.
Mayor Dale Berry advised the MAIS Softball Tournament was a success and brought several people to the town and restaurants. Mayor berry advised Mancil Hobbs was the employee highlight.
In work projects and community reports, Mayor Berry advised work would begin at the YMCA.
Chris Lane met before the board concerning the 2020 Census. The city is working hard to make sure all citizens are counted in the upcoming census. Chris announced the census committee that has been organized. Members are Chris Lane, Paul Arnold, Jimmy Clyde, Belinda Green, Bridgett Lee, Nell Kennedy, and Virginia Caughman.
The board voted on a setoff resolution. The resolution is a pilot program that will help collect old debts for fines that are owed.
Terrance Norwood, candidate for Circuit Clerk, spoke before the board giving his platform and pitch for their vote in the upcoming election.
In police matters Chief Randy Crawford asked the board for approval of a request for retirement from Officer Joey Womack effective September 30, 2019. The board approved the request. A request to move Charles Alexander from part-time to full-time officer was given to replace officer Womack. Permission was granted for Dispatcher Becky Freeman to attend a class for CE.
The mayor reminded the citizens that the City of Magee is under a ban watch until further notice.
