In the public works department, Mayor Berry advised Nevis Rankin repaired the fire hydrant that had been of concern to the fire department and city. The mayor stated, “being able to repair the fire hydrant  by a city employee  was a large savings to the city.”

Mayor Berry formed a committee of Alderman Brown, Alderman Steele, and Alderman Brister to find a solution for the high school ball field  usage at the Sportsplex with the school district.

The accident involving a police officer (click here for more info)  involved an illegal immigrant. The individual was charged with DUI and no insurance. The accident took place on September 25, 2018.

Charlie Valadie, Fire Marshal,  came before the board to request permission to purchase a new fire truck. The truck the department  presently owns will no longer be recognized by the rating bureau due to the age of the truck.  The new truck will  be built to specifications which will take approximately 1 year to build.  A deposit of $250,000 is required to begin work on the truck. A grant will cover $200,000 of charges and the additional $50,000 will be  covered with selling of older equipment. The board approved to move forward with the purchase of the new truck. Magee and Mendenhall both are purchasing the same type truck and are receiving a multi purchase discount.

With no further business meeting was recessed until the October 16, 2018 meeting.
