Mae Louise Nichols, 88, passed away Wednesday June 28 , 2017 at Montgomery Gardens Assisted Living Home in Starkville, MS.  She was born September 21, 1928 in Magee, Mississippi, and also lived in Jackson and Flowood, Mississippi before she moved to Starkville in 2009 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.  She has lived at Montgomery Gardens for the last three years where she enjoyed all the social activities and friends she made there.  She quickly became their greatest ambassador and was “the Face of Montgomery Gardens” on social media sites and in the newspaper.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Colonial Chapel in Magee, MS.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel followed by a graveside service at Magee Cemetery.  Mae Louise’s nephew,  Robin Nichols, Minister, of Brandon, MS will oversee the service and Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of the arrangements. (601)849-5031.
Mae Louise was born on the farm of John Henry and Cayce Barr Gill two miles north of Magee.  She attended Magee High School where she graduated in 1946 and later attended Copiah Lincoln Junior College.   On June 16, 1948 she married Carey Milton Nichols also of Magee following his service in World War II.  They moved to Jackson where Carey was a long time salesman and manager for  McRae’s Department Stores.  Mae Louise also worked at various clerical jobs to help support the family to include a position at the State Department of Education.  They were devoted members of Woodland Hills Baptist Church where they were involved in just about every aspect of that ministry.  Family and friends were the focus of their lives and their greatest joy.
She was preceded in death by her:  Husband – Carey Nichols, Father – John Henry Gill, Mother – Cayce Gill, and one brother John (Buck) Gill.
Survivors include  her siblings: William Gill of Edwards and Madeline Hull of Philadelphia,  her children Nancy Meador (John) of Starkville and Kent Nichols of Gulf Breeze, Florida, her grandchildren Daniel Meador of Decatur, GA,  Shelley Griffin of Leland, MS, Josh Nichols of Melbourne, FL, Katie Nichols of Melbourne, FL, and Noah Nichols of Cincinnati, OH.  Mae Louise also is survived by Great Grandchildren – Casey Mae and Jack Meador of Decatur, GA and Porter Griffin of Leland, MS.
Pallbearers will include: Daniel Meador, Josh Nichols, Noah Nichols, and Matt Griffin.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.  An online guestbook can be signed at www.colonialchapelmageemendenhall.com.
