Madison Central Senior Ridge Brohaugh named Mississippi’s Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
The Gatorade State Boys Soccer Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.
The 2013-14 Gatorade State Player of the Year as a sophomore, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior midfielder and forward led the Jaguars to a 19-3-2 record and their fourth straight Class 6A state championship this past season. Brohaugh scored 17 goals and passed for six assists. A two-time Mississippi Association of Coaches Player of the Year, Brohaugh is a two-time Clarion Ledger First Team All-State selection. He concluded his prep soccer career with 64 goals and 26 assists.
Brohaugh has maintained an A average in the classroom. A National Merit finalist, he has been a class representative in the Madison Central High student government and is a two-time winner of the school’s Citizenship Award. He has also volunteered locally with the US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer program serving young athletes with disabilities in addition to participating in multiple community service initiatives through his church youth group.
“Ridge Brohaugh is a great all-around player and can help a team in a variety of ways,” said Kelly Ross, head coach of Bay High. “He is on another level.”
Ridge will be attending the University of Mississippi where he has been accepted into the Sally McDonnel Barksdale Honors College and the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence Program. He has also been chosen to be part of the Chancellor’s Leadership Class for incoming freshmen.
Ridge is the son of Rick and Dana (McAlpin) Brohaugh, and the grandson of Betty Mangum of Mendenhall and Dan McAlpin of Magee.
