JACKSON – Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves today appointed a workforce development expert to the Board of Education and two business leaders to a board monitoring agency contracts.
Reeves appointed Madison business leader Jason Dean to the state Board of Education. Former certified public accountant Tony Greer of Clinton and Chevron Pascagoula Refinery procurement coordinator Jeffery Belk of Vancleave will serve on the Personal Service Contract Review Board.
The Board of Education sets policy for Mississippi public schools and oversees the Department of Education. Dean has extensive experience in the areas of education, workforce training and economic development.
“Jason knows what companies expect from today’s workforce and has the knowledge to help Mississippi schools prepare students for college and a job,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I appreciate his commitment and passion for improving our public schools for all kids in Mississippi.”
The Senate will consider Dean’s appointment when the Legislature convenes in 2016. Board members serve for nine years.
Dean is vice president for program development at Tenax Aerospace LLC. He is former vice president for economic policy at the Mississippi Economic Council. Dean served as a White House Fellow in 2006. He was education policy adviser for former Gov. Haley Barbour.
Dean earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies from the University of Southern Mississippi. He earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in education from the University of Mississippi. He graduated from Jackson Public Schools. His wife, Courtney, is a former public school teacher and active in their local Parent-Teacher Organization. They have three young children, of which two attend Madison County public schools.
The Personal Services Contract Review Board oversees the approval of certain agency contracts. The Senate will consider the appointments.
“Jeffery brings extensive private sector experience in procurement and contracting to the board. Tony’s knowledge of state agencies and local governments will be invaluable as the contract review board proceeds forward,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I appreciate their service to the public on this important board.”
Belk is the Small Capital Project Procurement Coordinator at the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery. He is chairman of the Jackson County Civil Service Commission and a member of the Chevron Federal Credit Union Advisory Council. He has served as a Chairman of the Chevron Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee and was a board member of the Mississippi Minority Business Association.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing from the University of Southern Mississippi. He and his wife, Cindy, have four children.
Greer is a Hinds County supervisor. He is a certified financial examiner and an accredited insurance examiner. He previously worked as a senior financial analyst at the state Department of Insurance and owned a real estate management company.
Greer has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi College. He and his wife, Sharon, have three children.
