Losses and Crosses

Seeing the destruction in Nepal is heartbreaking. So many lives have been lost, so many people have been injured and others have lost the few, meager possessions that they owned.   We discussed in our Sunday school class the current turmoil in the world as we study from the book of Habakkuk. The prophet is sorrowful about the sins of his people and he is upset about all of the evil in the world. He knows that God cannot tolerate wrongdoing and Habakkuk is fearful because he knows that punishment is coming! Judgement and punishment from God sometimes involves many nations and many people, including the innocent and the faithful!

We are raising a generation that does not understand that God allows us to make choices and decisions that go against His teachings; they are part of the freedom to live as we desire.   We have called “wrong things right” and been told that some sins are an alternate life style! We are saying that the Bible is out of date and not applicable to the way we live today. We are asking our courts to decide on subjects when their opinions are irrelevant to God’s teachings!

In your anger, do not sin

August 1, 2026

The prophet knows that judgement is coming, but he holds fast to God’s promises to always be merciful. As the victims sit on their losses and as Christians are bearing crosses daily, we are told to hold fast to God’s unchanging hand! As Habakkuk ask God in 3:2, “In Your wrath, remember mercy”.

Habakkuk 3:6 – “He stands and shakes the earth; He looks and startles the nations. The age-old mountains break apart, the ancient hills sink down. His pathways are ancient.”

The media has reported that there were over 26 earthquakes on May 2!

We have been warned!!
