The Scriptural passage selected for today comes from 2 Corinthians 7:1: “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” The apostle reminds the early Christians of God’s manifold promises for those who accept Him; however, as our part of the covenant with Him, we are to flee from the evil one and resist his influence to do the things of this world–things which contaminate and pollute our bodies and spirits. Let us be on guard and ever-mindful of the need to keep ourselves pure and blameless. Through prayer, the study of God’s Word, and reliance on the guidance and counsel of the Holy Spirit, we can stay the course and live a life pleasing to God, our Father. The Word of God for the people of God; thanks be to God!
