By James Davis
The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Amen! The apostles urged those Christians from the various churches of Asia Minor to give so that there would be no need among them. The widows, the orphans, and the truly needy were to be looked after and provided for. Jesus had a special place during His earthly ministry for the poor, the truly poor and needy. We are to have deep compassion for the less fortunate. When we do give, it should never be forced or coerced for any reason other to help ease the burden of those whose circumstances are less than our own. God will reward accordingly. Of that, we can be assured.
Let us extend love and kindness to those with whom we come in contact. “Let us not grow weary in the work of love; send the light. Send the light. Let us gather jewels for a crown above; send the light; send the light. Send the light, the blessed gospel light. Let it shine from shore to shore. Send the light, the blessed gospel light, let it shine forevermore, forevermore.” Amen!
