The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in Proverbs 21:23: “He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.” King Solomon ruled for 40 years and asked God early on to imbue him with wisdom to help him as the appointed ruler of God’s chosen people. Solomon knew his need of having God involved in his rule and reign. This particular verse is as sound for us today as it was during Solomon’s rule. Let us be very careful in our choice of words. There is life, and there is death in that choice. In Proverbs 15:4, Solomon also said, “The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” Therefore, we must be constantly aware of what we say and how we say it. Like wine, words can sting like an adder or soothe like a salve or ointment. Amen!
