The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in Proverbs 15:4: “The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” King Solomon in all his wisdom knew the power of words. They can heal, uplift, encourage, or crush and demean the one to whom they’re directed. Words have awesome power, and the speaker is in total control. We must learn to curb the tongue and try our best to use it to give comfort, healing, and encouragement whenever possible. Let us be known as one who controls his or her words, measures them wisely, and strives to promote healing. We must never crush another’s spirit. Be very mindful of that. It’s criminal and cruel to do so, and we will be held accountable by God. As we use to hear it said, “Bite your tongue if you must.” Amen!
