Law Professor John Anderson Addresses December 2019 Graduation

Earlier this year, MC Law Dean Patricia Bennett joins John Anderson, who on May 10 was named the university’s Professor of the Year.

A total of 508 Mississippi College students will receive diplomas at the university’s December 20 graduation.

The list of degree seekers that Friday includes 234 undergraduates, 265 students from the Graduate School and nine others from the MC School of Law in Jackson.

Anderson’s expertise stretches from constitutional law to international human rights. He comes to classrooms well-equipped to teach students about insider trading law, white collar crime and contracts.

Mississippi College leaders will conduct three graduation ceremonies at the A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The events begin with an 11 a.m. ceremony for 72 degree candidates from the School of Nursing.

Ceremonies will begin 2 p.m. for students from the School of Christian Studies and the Arts, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Science and Mathematics along with Interdisciplinary Studies.

Activities wrap up Friday evening with commencement to begin at 6 p.m. for the School of Business, the School of Education and MC Law.

Professor Anderson earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy at the University of California at Berkeley. He received a master’s and doctorate in the field at the University of Virginia. He’s a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.

He recently published a book with Cambridge University Press titled “Insider Trading: Law Ethics and Reform.”

Anderson has written articles in leading USA publications in the legal profession such as “Law & Philosophy,” the “Virginia Law & Business Review,’’ and “Temple Law Review.”

He stays focused on his love of teaching. “I feel blessed every day I go to work and teach these wonderful students.”

Anderson’s award for Distinguished Professor of the Year was announced at the May 10 commencement for the MC Law Class of 2019. The Spring graduation was held at First Baptist Church Jackson.
