In her retirement years, Jean was a volunteer at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope and a regular at the Fairhope Public Library. She spent much of her time with her granddaughter, Laura, and was devoted to her immediate family and in close contact with her extended family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Butler, and both her parents.

She is survived by her children Georgia Elizabeth Brown (of Fairhope, AL), Charles David Butler (of Jackson, MS) her granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Brown (of Fairhope), her sister, Mary Helen Shealy (of Miramar Beach, FL), her brother, Gary Garrett (of Magee), her sister, Nancy Abernathy (of Laurel, MS) and her loving nieces and nephew.
