Simpson softball captures State AAAA Division II Championship
Simpson’s softball team won the school’s first State Championship Monday at the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex. The Lady Cougars defeated Pillow Academy 8-0 on Saturday to get the tournament started. The Lady Cougars played Copiah in the semifinals on Monday and won 2-1 in 8 innings. The championship game saw the Lady Cougars hold a slim 3-2 lead until the sixth inning when Magnolia Heights would score four runs and take a 6-3 lead. The Lady Cougars never panicked and came back to tie the game 6-6 and had the bases loaded when Abigail Carter would blast a Grand Slam Home Run to make the score 10-6 Cougars. The Lady Cougars would get the three outs needed in the top of the seventh inning to claim the State Championship 10-6.

Pillow Academy
Simpson 8 Pillow 0-Getting hits for Simpson were Leah Beth Luckey with two doubles, a single and 2 RBI’s; Maddie Moody a triple, a single and an RBI; Bailey Sartin a double, a single, and 2 RBI’s; Morgan Griffith a single; Bella Luckey a single; Allison Richardson a single and an RBI; and Kristin Busby an RBI.
Pitching for Simpson was Bella Luckey 7 innings with 2 strikeouts. The win improved Simpson’s record to 23-6 on the season.

Copiah Academy
Simpson 2 Copiah 1-Getting hits for Simpson were Leah Beth Luckey with three singles; Abigail Carter a double; Bella Luckey a double and an RBI; Allison Richardson a single; and Bailey Sartin an RBI.
Pitching for Simpson was Bella Luckey 8 innings with 6 strikeouts. The win improved Simpson’s record to 24-6.

Magnolia Heights
Simpson 10 Magnolia Heights 6-Getting hits for Simpson were Abigail Carter with a Grand Slam Home Run, a single, and 4 RBI’s; Bailey Sartin two doubles and 2 RBI’s; Kristin Busby a double; Morgan Griffith a single and an RBI; Bella Luckey a single and an RBI; Leah Beth Luckey a single; Maddie Moody a single and an RBI; and Allison Richardson an RBI.
Pitching for Simpson were Bella Luckey 3.0 innings, Morgan Griffith 2.2 innings with a strikeout, and Bailey Sartin 1.1 innings with a strikeout. The win improved Simpson’s record to 25-6

The Lady Cougars will compete in the Overall Class AAAA Tournament on Saturday, September 30th, vs MRA at noon at the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex. If the Lady Cougars advance to the semifinals, they will play on Monday, October 2nd.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Lady Cougars of Simpson Academy buckled down and beat Magnolia Heights 10-6 to take home the title of State Champs.
Abigail Carter sealed the deal for the Cougars with a grand slam.
Earlier in the day, the Cougars defeated Copiah Academy in a hard fought ballgame that went into over-time ending 2-1.
SCA will began over-all championship play for the MAIS on September 30th. Games will be on Saturday and Monday. MAIS rules do not allow for Sunday play.
Congratulations to the team on a job well done!
