On the first Monday of every September, we celebrate the federally recognized holiday called Labor Day. Labor Day honors the American worker and the successes they have made. Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 by a parade in New York organized by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor. Labor Day was first recognized as a holiday by the state of Oregon in 1887. It wasn’t until 1894 that the holiday was recognized nationally.
Today, Labor Day is known to many as an unofficial end to summer, or the first day weekend of dove season. Either way, Happy Labor Day from all of us at MageeNews.com.
