Mrs. Kriste Mangum has been selected by the Simpson County Achievement Center Staff to represent the school as Teacher of the Year.

Kriste has worked in the Simpson County School District since August 1993. She taught at Magee Middle School for twenty-one years. During that time, Kriste taught eighth grade math. During her years of service at Magee Middle, Kriste also served on committees including the TIF Leadership Committee, served as chairman of the pageant committee, and was also a mentor teacher as she is well known for her teacher excellence in math field.

After graduating from Raleigh High School, Kriste began her college career at Jones County Junior College. She continued her education at Mississippi College where she received her Bachelor of Science In Elementary Education. Later, she earned her Master of Science in Education from William Carey University. Mangum is currently in her twenty-third year in the classroom, and she said, “I love to see students light up when they learn something new. I think it is crucial that I show students different ways to solve problems, and I love to hear students ask me, is that all you do? I truly love teaching and especially teaching math. It is an honor to be selected as Teacher of the Year by my peers and it is truly humbling”

Kriste and her husband, Jimmy, are long-time residents of Magee. They have three children, Mitch, Carsyn, and Matt. They attend Goodwater Baptist Church where Mrs. Mangum enjoys teaching Bible School year after year.

SCAC was audited by the Mississippi Department of Education in November. The auditor talked with Mrs. Mangum and complimented her teaching abilities and the strategies that he saw during his observation. He also complimented the engagement of her students and the active instruction he observed. Dr. Morris said, “Mrs. Mangum is an asset to the school as she is an excellent math teacher, she forms positive relationships with her students, and she is a team player when we work on projects outside of her classroom for our school. She is very conscientious about working with the schools throughout the district to ensure each student receives academic assignments in a timely manner and that every student’s work is returned to the homeschool in a timely manner. Mrs. Mangum is also a wonderful classroom manager! She sets her rules, she prepares for each day, and her students respect her. This makes for a successful school day and a well-managed classroom. We are very proud for Mrs. Mangum to represent SCAC as Teacher of the Year.”
