Kermit Berry, 84, passed away peacefully at home in Simpson County Sunday, March 9th surrounded by family after battling cancer that was discovered in July. Mr. Berry was born September 19, 1940, and reared in Simpson County. He married Linda Sue (Rice) of Harrisville in 1965 and reared his children in Jackson before retiring back to Simpson County in the Bridgeport Community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Russell Berry and Buna Fay (Butler), a sister, Sally Jeanette Berry and his brothers Willie Howard Berry, Billy Richard Berry, John Paul Berry, Buford Daniel Berry and Andy Raford Berry. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Sue; son Andy Scott with granddaughter Kristen and great granddaughter Mila, and grandsons Dillon and Carson; son John Daniel with daughter in law, Heidi, and granddaughters Ashton and Bailey; and sister, Hazel Welch with brother in law Vic.
Kermit was a member of Strong River Baptist Church in Pinola. He retired as a First Sergeant from C Co, 1-155th Mechanized Infantry, having served 29 years in the MS National Guard. He also worked 30 years in the trucking industry and retired from Consolidated Freightways.
Some know Kermit as the master boiler at the annual peanut boil he and Linda Sue hosted annually and while he has had some form of a garden every year of his adult life, he had retired back to farm life, with a vegetable garden many benefited from each year, dabbled in some woodworking but following his five grandchildren in their various sports and activities was a passion.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. The funeral service, to be presided over by Reverends Glen Jennings and Roger Lee, will follow on Wednesday, March 12, 2:00 pm at Strong River Baptist Church with interment immediately following. Memorials may be made to Strong River Baptist Church.
