Following the Stay-at-Home order, I have, of coursed, noticed more people “walking” the streets beside my house. I’ve been walking the streets more! With the walking seems to bring more and more trash.
Wednesday, I contacted Mayor Berry and requested a litter barrel be placed near the RR tracks on 1st Street. Maybe the people walking back and forth would at least try to hit the barrel with their trash!
I am not sure if the Keep Magee Beautiful barrel will do any good…but I’m going to conduct a survey and see if a container makes any different.
I would like to say, “like everyone”…but apparently “everyone” doesn’t feel the way I do about trash…because it is everywhere all over our city and highways.
Please, use this opportunity to train children not to litter. I am saddened by the condition of many areas of the city. Our officials are trying…we need the public trying. But, as long as adults allow trash all around their own homes…piles of mess on a porch…garbage by the road not in bags…backyards full of junk…we are going to fight this problem every single day. What happened to pride? We need pride in our city…pride in our homes…pride in ourselves. (Oh my, I didn’t mean to get on my soapbox!)
Thanks to Blake Sullivan for bringing the barrel and putting it in place. I’ll give ya’ll an update on the barrel trash in a week or so!
