Local coaches excited for KDMC Kickoff Classic opportunity
WESSON – Head coaches from the four participating schools, Lawrence County, Magee, Brookhaven, and Franklin County, came together Wednesday afternoon for a press conference regarding the inaugural KDMC Kickoff Classic. The Classic will consist of two games played at Stone Stadium on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Lawrence County will host Magee on Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m., and Brookhaven High will play host to Franklin County on Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m.
All parties involved are thrilled of the opportunity the Classic brings. KDMC plans to utilize the opportunity to show their dedication to local high schools in the area and as a leader in the sports medicine program. The local schools, all of which are in Co-Lin’s district, are provided a unique opportunity to play at a college facility to open their 2016 seasons, and Co-Lin benefits heavily from the Classic by having local high school students and parents visit the campus.
Jaymie Palmer, Lawrence County Head Football Coach said, “As someone who went to school here [Co-Lin] and played baseball here, I’m very excited about this.”
Magee High School Head Coach Tim Coats echoed Palmer with excitement, “This is great for our kids. Since we are one of Co-Lin’s districts schools, these students and their parents will get a chance to see the facilities. It’s a good thing for us.” Brookhaven Head Coach Tommy Clopton had positives to say as well. “This is a great beginning to something that I think will grow as the years go on. I believe the schools that KDMC serves and schools in Co-Lin’s district will begin to look forward to this event every year.”
Trey Woodard, Franklin County Head Coach said, “Our guys are excited about the event, but also excited to play Brookhaven. Opening our season with a 5-A opponent is scary stuff. Fortunately, we play Wesson on Co-Lin’s campus every two years, so hopefully that will benefit us.”
