So much for the Sound of Silence

I just love living in Magee! There’s always something happening—whether it’s around my house, in the city, the county, the state, or with the people who make this town what it is!

Monday night at 10:15, I was finishing up some work on the computer when I heard a loud bang! (Actually, my whole house shook!) I thought the sound came from the front, so I did a quick check out front—but I just didn’t go far enough.

Happy 14th Birthday to Larkin!!!

Happy 14th Birthday to Larkin!!!

April 8, 2026

Tuesday morning, I was in the utility room and glanced out the back door toward the barn. That’s when I noticed something strange—I could see pavement. That’s when it hit me: part of my fence was gone!

Upon closer inspection, I found quite a mess on the sidewalk near the missing section. Turns out, someone had hit the tree back there! The fence wrapped around the tree—until a car came barreling through and took out part of the fence. But the tree? The tree wasn’t going anywhere. (Check out the mess!)

Our wonderful police department showed up to investigate. As soon as Officer Vance Hamilton walked up, he said, “I know who did that.” Around 10:40 Monday night, they’d received a call about someone being taken to the hospital. A severely damaged car was also spotted near the East Side Apartments. If you look at the photos, you’ll see the front grill lying on the ground—along with a trail of car parts.

Vance quickly started putting two and two together. Good cops know how to spot a story coming together.

The police now know who hit the tree. We’ve just got to follow all the legal steps before moving forward with charges. The airbags deployed, so I imagine “he” ended up with quite the headache.

Does he have insurance? I don’t know—but if I had to guess, I’d say no. I’ll follow the legal process and do what needs to be done. Since the driver didn’t stop, the accident is classified as a hit-and-run. And here’s the big question: Who in the world towed that car to East Side?

I’ll keep y’all posted.

Just another day in Magee… at Sue’s house!
