Graveside services for Judy McAlpin Grimes, of Brookhaven, formerly of Georgetown and Magee, are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2020, at the Magee City Cemetery.  There will be a brief visitation period before at the cemetery from 9:30-10:00 a.m.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only family is encouraged to attend.  All of Judy’s family and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Memorial Service scheduled for Saturday, May 23, at the McAlpin Family Pavilion, 1071 Smith County Road 63, Mount Olive, Mississippi, at 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Grimes, 70, passed away unexpectedly at St. Dominic Hospital on March 25, 2020.  Judy was born on September 28, 1949, in Magee, to Ollen Daniel (O.D.) and Betty Rea (Ashley) McAlpin.  She was a long-term member of Georgetown Baptist Church.  She attended Faith Presbyterian Church, Brookhaven.
Preceding her in death are her parents, and her daughter, Ashley Dawn Williamson.  Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stephen L. Grimes, the love of her life; daughters, Kelli Nichols and Erin W. Smith; son-in-law, Brett C. Smith; grandchildren, Karley Dawn Nichols, Bryce C. Smith, Hampton E. Smith, and Ashlynn Dawn Smith; loving step-mother, Doris McAlpin; brother, Daniel McAlpin; niece, Dana Brohaugh; nephews, James Grimes, Chip McAlpin, Andy Mundy, and Drummonds McAlpin; loving friend, Sherry Hickman; and a host of special “Sister Cousins”, great nieces, and great nephews.
She was a 1967 graduate of Magee High School.  She also graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Named Star Teacher, it was evident Judy enjoyed working as a Speech Pathologist at Wesson Attendance Center and Simpson Central Elementary.  Judy positively impacted hundreds of school children.  She was a lover of all people and taught her own children the importance of empathy and compassion towards others.
Should you plan to attend, due to COVID-19, please scale back direct contact with family and guests (e.g., handshakes, hugs, etc.) and follow healthy habits such as social distancing, hand hygiene, covering cough and sneezes, etc.  The family asks those who are ill and or at-risk (e.g., elderly, immune-compromised) to consider staying home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to Batson Children’s Hospital, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216 and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
