There will be a special election on November 6, 2018. Candidates may qualify any time after the board of supervisors officially declare the seat vacant and call the special election and on or before September 7, 2018 (60 days before the date of the election). All will qualify as independents (without party affiliation) by filing a petition signed by not less than 15 registered voters of the district and paying a qualifying fee of $100.

Qualifications: A qualified elector (registered voter), resident of the county two years before election day, a high school graduate or its equivalent, and completion of a course of training required by law within six months of beginning term of office.  Per the Mississippi Supreme Court in Montgomery v.
