The Honorable Judge Eddie H. Bowen, age 71, entered this life on February 21, 1949, to Howard Johnnie Bowen and Flora Eunice (Bradshaw) Bowen and departed this life on Monday, February 7, 2021.
During his lifetime, he accomplished many achievements. He was a member of the Mississippi National Guard for approximately 16 years, where he served in the Vietnam War and received the rank of Major before voluntarily resigning. He graduated from Mississippi State University and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He practiced law in Hinds County and after a few years, he moved his practice to his hometown of Raleigh. In 1999, he was appointed to fill the position of District Attorney and was then elected as District Attorney, where he served until September 2010, when he was appointed to fill the position of Circuit Court Judge. After a special election, Judge Bowen was elected as the Circuit Court Judge for the 13th Circuit Court District for two and one-half terms, where he served until his death. He is survived by his wife, Sherrie (Blackledge) Bowen; sons, Jonas Wesley Bowen (Vicki), Caleb Bradshaw Bowen; brothers, Carlie Bowen (Charlotte), David Bowen (Lana), Tim Bowen (Melinda), Johnathan Bowen (Miriam); sisters, Ruth Hayes (George), Abigail Crosby (Samuel), Mary Alice Nanney; grandchildren, Eden Gabriel Bowen, Taylor Glenn, and Collins Glenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mattie Crisler.
The pallbearers for Judge Bowen include Sheriff Randy Johnson of Jasper County, Sheriff Darrell Perkins of Covington County, Sheriff Joel Houston of Smith County, and Sheriff Paul Mullins of Simpson County.
Judge Bowen will lie in state at the Smith County Courthouse in Raleigh, MS on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the service following at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Jerry Rowley officiating. Interment will follow in Merchant Cemetery in Raleigh, MS.
