WESSON – Quinn Boerner and Dylan Becker, both of Alexander Junior High School in Brookhaven, captured first place in the seventh and eighth grade divisions respectively, in the District Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics Junior High Math Contest held recently on Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Wesson Campus.
Other seventh grade winners included Connor Johnson of West Lincoln Attendance Center, second place; Kassidi Watts of Bogue Chitto Attendance Center, Nicholas Hoy of Rod-Paige Middle School, and Carlesha Jackson of Jefferson County Junior High, third place tie; Devon Sampson of Wesson Attendance Center and Hannah McKennon of Rod-Paige Middle School, fourth place tie; Gerson Martinez of Magee Middle School and Jeremiah Layton of Alexander Junior High, fifth place tie.
Other eighth grade winners were Tucker Jaudon of Wesson Attendance Center, second place; Lexi Ashley of Wesson Attendance Center, Brooke Cade of Loyd Star Attendance Center, Brady Ratcliff and Averi Paden, both of West Lincoln Attendance Center, third place tie; Ellie Slay of Alexander Junior High and Evan Sutton of Rod-Paige Middle School, fourth place tie; Andy Baeuerle of Magee Middle School and Peyton Warren of Loyd Star Attendance Center, fifth place tie.
Forty-eight students from 12 junior high schools in the Co-Lin district attended the contest. Schools participating included Alexander Junior High, Bogue Chitto Attendance Center, Copiah Academy, Crystal Springs Middle School, Enterprise Attendance Center, Jefferson County Junior High, Loyd Star Attendance Center, Magee Middle School, New Hebron Attendance Center, Rod-Paige Middle School, Wesson Attendance Center, and West Lincoln Attendance Center.
First and second place district winners will compete at the state competition held on the Rankin campus of Hinds Community College. The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Math Division coordinates the annual event.
