Josephine Harvey Gunter Coram passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Ms Care Center in Raleigh, MS. She was born on January 1,1939, to Ransom Neil Hand and Hattie Mae Dickerson Hand in Smith County.
Josephine walked everywhere she went. She always made friends and lasting friendships throughout her many life journeys. She liked to talk and enjoyed having good conversations. During her earlier years, she enjoyed having her family over for big gatherings when she’d cook. She adored her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going to flea markets and loved her animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ransom and Hattie Mae Dickerson Hand; son, Jimmy Harvey; two brothers, William Fred Hand (Judy) and Jimmy Paul Hand; and sister, Mary Lee Hand.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Harvey Curtis (John), James David Gunter Jr, Diane G. Ainsworth (Jerry), Joe David Gunter (Jenny); brothers, Carl “Hoppie” Hand (Venie Kaye), Jerry Lee Hand Sr (Trudy), Tommy Hand (Brenda), Carrol Hand (Judy), Gale Hand; sisters, Barbara Dennis (Orea), Jane Hand; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at New Liberty Landmark Baptist Church. The service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 11, at New Liberty Landmark Baptist Church, with Brother Rudy Jackson and Brother Stevie Hand officiating. Interment will follow in New Liberty Landmark Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Curtis, Ronnie Curtis, Reed Howell, Steve Howell, Tommy Neil and Todd Ross.
Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
