Jon Michael Helms

Brandon – Mike was born in Corinth, MS, April 4, 1938. He was the youngest of six children of Niles and Mary Helms. In his youth he spent time helping on the family farm and caring for his pet goat. Camping at Pickwick Lake and being involved with youth activities at the Presbyterian church were favorite childhood memories. After graduating from Corinth High School in 1957, he received his BS degree in Accounting from University of Mississippi in 1962, then joined Chevron as an accounting manager. While living in New Orleans, he married Karin Banck Helms and started family life with his two daughters, Holly Lynn Helms and Laura Leigh Helms. Mike was employed by Jackson Brewing Company as a marketing manager after receiving his Master’s degree from the University of New Orleans in 1971. During his time in NOLA he enjoyed sailing on Lake Pontchartrain and golfing.

In 1974, The Helms Family moved to the Bay Park subdivision on the Reservoir in Brandon. Mike worked for BIC, Eaton Corporation, and Multi-Craft while he pursued his Advanced Marketing Degree at Millsaps College. Mike was involved in community activities, playing tennis and golf, and raising his children. He enjoyed carpentry and building projects around the house and attending local high school football games. Boating and fishing on the Reservoir was his passion.
