As a community and friends “around the world,” we need to join together and pray for Mandy and Leslie Barry (sister-in-laws).

Mandy and Leslie left Thursday on a mission trip to India. From the beginning, the girls had difficulties…plane schedules…not meeting the mission group in Atlanta…re-routing their trip all over Europe…finally getting to India.

Upon arrival in India, Leslie and Mandy were going through customs to enter the country. (now, remember they had flown in and out of several airports…through security checks etc)
When passing through customs, bullets were found in the backpack Mandy was carrying. Mandy had borrowed Leslie’s husband backpack, which he had just used for a hunting trip and didn’t get everything out of the bag.

Mandy was immediately arrested. Leslie would not leave Mandy and followed her to the jail. The girls were able to talk with their husbands and family back in the USA. A lawyer was obtained as well as contact to the US Embassy. The orphanage Leslie and Mandy were in route to was only about thirty to forty-five minutes away….but communicating in a foreign country is quite difficult.

The lawyer was able to get Mandy released on bail. The girls are in a hotel near the jail. Sunday night Mandy will appear before the “big” judge…..gang, we have got to pray. Mandy’s passport was confiscated and even if the hearing goes well…could be days before Mandy will get her passport returned.

We need to pray at 12 midnight as Mandy comes before the “big” judge (the time will be 10:30 Monday their time)

The situation is very serious. Please ask everyone to pray…these two young ladies are probably scared to death…just as their families are back in the USA.

I will keep update as info is received. Leslie is the daughter of Bruce Lewis and Laura Lewis. I am not sure who are Mandy’s parents. Both Leslie and Mandy have made several mission trips.

Some info from Laura (the mother) “Praise God!!!! I just face timed Leslie Lewis Barry and Mandy. They are doing great!! Go in front of judge Monday which is Sunday night at 10:30 pm. Our time, They need favor with judge. May take 7 to 10 days to get passport. I serve a God that can make it sooner. Thanks for prayers. Thank God for answering.”
Again, I received a text saying pray at midnight

* Note from Leslie and Mandy: (received early Monday morning (June 15th)

“The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. (Proverbs 29:25 ESV)
We have been overwhelmed by your love and prayers. When we left the USA a few days ago we had no plans to be spending this much time with the Indian Judicial system! But We are certain that God has a plan and purpose…
Court went well this morning. We arrived for the court at 10:30 and then we waited and waited. Right before they broke for lunch they called Mandy’s case (prayers answered). She was able to sign the bail papers.
Tomorrow we will return to court and apply for Mandy’s passport. She still will not be able to leave the country because there is a hold on her passport. So they will also apply for the hold to be removed tomorrow.
After court we will travel to Chennai. And we will be able to help at the leper colony.
Mandy will have to return to Bangalore to receive her passport in person. We are praying the she receives the passport and the hold is removed before we are supposed to fly out Thursday night/Friday morning at 0130.
Thank you for your continued prayers and your uplifting verses you have shared.”
Much love,
Mandy and Leslie Barry

Please continue praying.  I will post info as received.

*Note from Laura (received early Monday, June 15th)

“Things went good in court. Mandy will fill out papers to get her passport. They said it could take 2 weeks. Pray for a speedy progress in getting it back. May have to go back to court in 3 months on charges. Not sure. Update later when I know more. Thanks. Keep praying please!”
