JACKSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College sophomores Brewunta Johnson of Mendenhall and Victoria “Tori” Sullivan of Magee were named to the All-Mississippi Academic Second Team. The Mississippi Legislature recently honored them.
Forty-eight Mississippi community and junior college students have been named to the All-Mississippi Academic Team. The All-Mississippi Academic Team recognizes the scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of community and junior college students across the state of Mississippi. Fifteen students have been named to the First Team and each will receive a $1,000 stipend. The All-Mississippi Academic Team was recognized at the State Capitol by the Mississippi Legislature and honored at a luncheon. The All-Mississippi Academic Team program is coordinated by The Clarion-Ledger, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and the Mississippi State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
Each college is eligible to nominate two students per campus for the Academic Team Competition. From the nominations received, 20 First, Second and Third Team members will be selected. First Team members will each receive a $2,500 cash stipend and a commemorative obelisk from USA TODAY; will be recognized during the Phi Theta Kappa Presidents Breakfast at the AACC Convention in Washington, DC; and will be featured in USA TODAY international newspaper. Second and Third Team members will each receive an engraved medallion and will be listed in USA TODAY.
In addition, nominees may have the opportunity to receive recognition through the All-State Academic Team program, designed to provide the same type of recognition as the national teams, only on a state level.
Johnson serves as President of the Student Government Association and Vice President of Leadership for the Xsi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. He is a member of the ROTARACT Club. A Vice President’s List student, Johnson was selected as Mr. Co-Lin, Campus Favorite, and Who’s Who Among American Junior College Students.
Johnson plans to pursue a career in computer information systems at Delta State University. He is the son of Charles Johnson and Cora McDaniel.
Sullivan serves as President of the Xsi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, President of Trailblazers, and Vice President of the ROTARACT Club. She is a member of the Bible Club, Archery Team, and serves as a Sophomore Representative in the Student Government Association. Sullivan was selected Sophomore Homecoming Maid and Campus Favorite.
Sullivan plans to pursue a career in educational psychology at Mississippi State University. She is the daughter of Robby and Tammy Sullivan.
