Johnnie Sue Mott passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2023, at MS Care Center in Raleigh, MS. She was born on December 9, 1934, to John Wesley Ivy and Jeannie Branson in Simpson County.
She raised her children from birth until they were all grown. They would all come back to see her and enjoy her good cooking. Everyone in the community wanted her to keep their newborn babies because they knew the tender, loving care that she would give to them. Working in her yard and with flowers brought her joy. She loved her brothers and sisters dearly, all fifteen of them.
Johnnie Sue is survived by her daughters, Regina Hopkins (Glenn) and Sherry Cotton (Dan); grandchildren, Jeremy Hopkins Jeana), Nathan Hopkins (Angela), Shawn Hopkins (Amber), Cory Hopkins (Becky), Kelli Holway (Chris), Melanie Butler, Chad Butler (Ronna), Jacob Butler (Dalicia), Chris Cotton (Caity), Nick Cotton; twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Jeannie Ivy; her first husband, George Stringer; second husband, Elton Mott; and fifteen siblings.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Bro. Glenn Hopkins, Bro. Shawn Hopkins and Bro. Donald Ivy will officiate the service to begin at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Interment will follow at North Raleigh Cemetery.
