Johnie Colonel Green
(3/1/1939 – 5/31/2025)

Johnie Colonel Green, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Brandon, Mississippi on Saturday, May 31, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held on June 05, 2025 from 12 noon to 2pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with burial at Calvary Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mize, Mississippi.  Brother Donald Wayne Green will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Johnie was preceded in death by his parents Elbert Colonel “Doc” Green and Ila Cleo Hargett Green, siblings William Arthur “W. A.” Green, Bernice Eugene “B. E.” Green, Pascal Eudell Green, Amie Horace Green, Juanita Green Scales, Ella Nora Green Bishop, Joyce Green, and Adra Green Luckey.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Byrd Green, sister Anita Wallace, daughter Pam Green Dickerson Riddick, son Greg (Debbie) Green, grandchildren Jacob (Ashley) Dickerson, Ryan (Andrea) Dickerson, Katie Dickerson (Lake) Thoms, Kristen Green (Nathan) McNair, Christopher (Yumi) Green, great-grandchildren Braxton Thoms, Camden Thoms, Eva Claire Thoms, Addison Dickerson,  Presley Anne Dickerson, Ila Dickerson, Caroline Dickerson, Wyatt Dickerson, Lucas Dickerson, and Eleanor (Ellie) McNair, and many nieces and nephews.

Johnie was born in Prentiss County, MS, in 1939.  His family moved to Simpson County in 1947.  He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met.  He was a well-known painting contractor for many years and painted many houses and businesses throughout Central Mississippi.  He was always fun to be around and loved making people laugh by “throwing his voice”, or pulling an innocent prank. For many years he organized men’s softball teams and was the coach as well as the pitcher.  He was also a great country singer and loved talking about the time he sang on the radio in Magee when he was young.  And he was not ashamed to sing in public whether breaking into song when walking into a convenience store, performing on stage with his son around Vicksburg, or just entertaining his family.

As a grandfather and great-grandfather, all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren thought the world of “Papaw Johnny”.  He had an inner quality of kindness and caring that all the kids were drawn to.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Dickerson, Ryan Dickerson, Chris Green, Nathan McNair, Lake Thoms, and Braxton Thoms.
