John West Cox was born on April 4, 1925 in Henry, Tennessee. A United States Navy veteran and a highly educated Engineer, he continued to work in the field of Nuclear Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering from Stanford University, Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from University of New Mexico, Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Purdue University, Master of Science in Offshore Structures from University of Houston, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University.

His engineering expertise allowed him to contribute to the successful Offshore oil and gas structure designs throughout the world; Offshore Shetland Islands, Scotland; Mediterranean Offshore, Milan, Italy; North West Shelf of Australia; Offshore Cabinda, West Africa. Most recently, he was well respected as Structural Engineer for Nuclear facilities throughout the country. Mr. Cox quietly departed this life on April 17, 2018 after being admitted to the hospital near his home in Magee, MS. He was 93 years young.

He will be forever cherished by all his family and will be remembered as a kind and true Southern Gentleman, a loving and devoted husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his two daughters, Amy Beeler and Bonny Schofield, and his two sons, Christopher Cox and Seth Cox. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Angela Cox, Sallie Cox, Graham Schofield, Harrison Schofield, Callie Evans, and Cody Cox. He dearly loved his great grandchildren, Adler, Liam, Max, and Ridley West. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Greenawalt Cox. We will miss his sweet smile, his love for fishing on Reelfoot Lake, and his passion for road trips.
