John Daniel “J.D.”  Barrett, 86, of Magee, MS died Saturday, January 09, 2016 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.  He was born September 02, 1929 in Sandersville, MS.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee.  Burial will follow in Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.   Barry Warren and Don Slider will officiate.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601)849-5031

Visitation will be held Monday, January 11, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee.

J.D. was a lifetime resident of Magee, graduating from Magee High School in 1948, where he lettered in varsity football.  J.D. married Ruth Barrett of Louise, MS.  They lived in Magee where he was an active member of South Shady Grove Church of God, singing in the choir until his death.  He was a transportation manager for APAC Mississippi.  He also enjoyed playing music with his band, J.D. Barrett and the Country Boys.  J. D. enjoyed traveling, on his own and with his family, particularly to Destin, Florida.  J. D. was a friend to all and a stranger to none.

He is preceded in death by his wife – Ruth Barrett; Father – Andrew Bailey Barrett; Mother – Minnie Jane Barrett.

Survivors include his sons – Donald L Barrett (Tammy), Florence; Johnny Barrett (Sylvia), Braxton;  Daughters, Janet Herman (John), Jackson; Judy James (Jeff), Brandon;   Lisa Robinson, Quitman, Susie Fequay (Junior), Magee;  Grand Children – Amy Kennair,  Jeff Barrett,  Jason Barrett,  Lori Barrett,  Kris Boyte,  Sid Boyte, Tamela Boyte,  Chuck McGee, Wes McGee,  Mitch Trever,  LeaAnn Jones, JoAnna Hurst, Jenny Herman, Hannah Clark, and 33 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Barrett, Tim Bunkley, Jerry Craft, Wes McGee, Chuck McGee, Mitch Ellis.
