Joe Edward “Pete” Fortenberry

(October 20, 1929 – September 18, 2022)

Joe Edward “Pete” Fortenberry, 92, of Raleigh, Mississippi, passed from this life on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the Mississippi Care Center in Raleigh, Mississippi. He was born Sunday, October 20, 1929.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Magee. Reverend Raymond Jeffcoat will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Mr. Fortenberry, affectionately known to many as “Pete”, spent his career driving a truck for Cal-Maine Foods. He liked to hunt, fish (“wet a hook”), and care for his many types of animals. An avid outdoorsman, he particularly enjoyed running his dogs. He and Mrs. Maurine were inseparable until her passing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine Pugh Fortenberry; his parents, Rufus Cleveland Fortenberry and Ruth McWilliams Fortenberry; and his siblings.

Survivors include his children, Sue Mason, Velma Elizabeth Bullock, Carolyn Dunigan (Ronald) and Janice Rummel; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Pallbearers will be Joey Gregory, Justin Mason, Jack Shi, Jonathan Bullock, Nathan Richardson, and Cody Williams.
