Local Magee High School stand out basketball player J’Lan Sims has committed to play for East Central CC.  J’Lan is 18 years old and the son of Shannoe Stubbs and Deshun Sims.  Vanessa McNair is his grandmother.

Magee has not had a guy sign with basketball for many years.  J’Lan has changed that situation.

J’Lan has lived in Magee all his life and attended Magee School since kindergarten.  He is an A-B students who hopes to one day be a basketball coach.

Coach Jarod Milloy is J’Lan’s coach and has been for 2 years. J’lan wears #2 in basketball.

J’Lan told me when he was in the 10th grade, he really wasn’t interested in basketball.  He really wasn’t interested in anything.  Coach Kendria Young changed the direction of J’Lan’s life.  “Coach Young lit a fire that sent me on a path to be the best,” stated Simms.

Sims is a member of the 2020 Undefeated Trojan football team. He plays cornerback and wears #24.  “Chandler (Pittman). Zay (Franks) and I grew up together.  We have been involved in all sports all our lives,” shared J’Lan. “Being together for this undefeated season is awesome.”

Last year, Magee’s basketball team made it only to the first round of the play-offs.  Sims’ goal is to take his team to the top.

Sims is the “baby” of the family with two older brothers and sisters.

Plans are for J’Lan’s signing to be held in February.

Although basketball begins Monday night, November 23rd, J’Lan will join the team following football season.

Best of luck to J’Lan as basketball season begins.
