Jimmy Vernon Walters was born in D’Lo, Mississippi on October 26, 1930 and passed away peacefully on December 28, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bura B. Walters, brother Ervin Walters, Bura L. “Bud” Walters, & Ray C. Walters.
He is survived by his wife Willa Jean Walters, daughter Laura Walters, sister Juanita W. Kennedy, along with many special nieces, nephews, family members, neighbors & friends who he loved dearly. His dedicated caregiver in the final years of his life, Susan Edwards, will always hold a special place in all of our hearts.
Valedictorian of D’Lo High School, class of 1947 and voted “Friendliest Boy” & “Most Likely to Succeed”, Jimmy attended Copiah-Lincoln College, then received his BBA from Ole Miss in 1951. He served his country in the Air Force from 1951-1953. After marrying his wife, Willa Jean, they relocated to Dallas. Jimmy earned his Masters of Education at SMU in 1957. For over 30 years, Mr. Walters spent his professional life as an elementary school principal, working with parents, teachers and students in the Garland schools. His kind heart, warm & welcoming smile, contagious laughter and gentle, fun-loving spirit will be cherished by all who knew him. Jimmy loved everyone & truly never met a stranger. We love you, and will miss you until we meet again one day, way up high, somewhere over that rainbow.
Family will receive friends from 2-4 on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. Services to be held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Restland Memorial Chapel. Burial/Graveside service to take place at D’Lo Cemetery in D’Lo, MS at 2:30pm on Thursday, January 5, 2016. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243 and Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Mendenhall, Ms.
