Jimmie C. Nicholson, Mendenhall, MS

 

Jimmie C. Nicholson, 91, passed peacefully from this life at St. Dominic Hospital on February 1, 2017.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in the Mendenhall City Cemetery.
He was born on May 29, 1925 in Yazoo County to Jimmie C. Nicholson, Sr. and Maggie McMaster Nicholson.  He graduated from Satartia High School.  Prior to his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  After receiving an honorable discharge,  he attended Mississippi College and transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a B.S. and Master’s Degree.  He retired from  the Mississippi Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Mendenhall where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and trustee.  During his retirement, he  volunteered at Simpson General Hospital.  He loved hunting and fishing throughout his life.  Most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father,  grandfather and brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Earl Nicholson.
Jimmie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Hazel Ross Nicholson, Mendenhall; daughters, Lana Bulger (Chris) and Sandi Layne (Scott);  grandchildren, Hailey Layne, Emory Layne and Stephens Bulger all of Brandon.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Scott Layne for his care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Mendenhall Cemeteries Association, P.O. Box 838, Mendenhall, MS 39114 or to First Baptist Church,  Mendenhall.
