Jane Ellen Layton, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017,  with her loving family by her side.  She was born December 7, 1937, in Jackson, MS, to Cloma Charles Crabdree and Virginia (Knight) Crabdree.
Jane was a graduate of Copiah Lincoln Jr. College where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame, then earned her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Southern Miss.  She retired from a 27-year career in Education from Simpson County Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mendenhall where she played the organ.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Layton; sons, Christopher John Layton (Christen), Joseph Thomas Layton, Jr. (Diane); daughters, Ellen Virginia Layton Taylor (Alex), Leah Loree Layton White; sister, Cloma Mangum and thirteen grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, James White and brother-in-law, Henry Lee “Sonny” Mangum, Jr., and nephew Henry Lee “Trey” Mangum III.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Mendenhall with an hour of visitation prior to the service.  Bro. Rodney Anderson and Bro. Richard Rankin will officiate. Interment will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery.
