James Monroe Smith, Jr. passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the age of 71. He was born on October 4, 1945, to his parents, James Monroe Smith, Sr. and Letha Mae (Williamson) Smith.
James was an E-4 in the United States Army Reserves. He served his country from 1966 to 1972. He began a career in sales and during his career he worked for McAlpin’s in Magee, McRae’s in Jackson and as a truck salesman for Peterbilt of Jackson. He was also the owner of Smith’s Minit Mart for eleven years. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Mendenhall.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
James is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Frances Coleman Smith; sons, Chad Smith (Kellye) and Jason Smith (Kelley); brother, Danny Smith (Martha); sisters, Brenda Jordan, Lisa Reeves; grandchildren, Hayden Smith, Zane Smith, Sebastian Smith, Chase Smith and Lennon Smith.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017, in the Tutor Funeral Home Chapel in Mendenhall. Bro. David Jager will officiate. Final resting place will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall.
