James Michael Peden, 75, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born Wednesday, January 30, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Magee City Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Dr. Robert “Bobby” Peden and Rev./Dr. Thomas G. Jennings, Jr. will officiate. Special music will be provided by Mr. Jamie May. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031

Mr. James was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Magee. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend. James was dedicated to his Profession and his Noteworthy Affiliations include; Mississippi Society of Radiologic Technology (1970-2002) Where he served two years as Vice President and Member of Licensure Committee for one year. American Society of Radiologic Technologist (1970-2002), Society of Nuclear Medicine (1986-2002), American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (1987-2002), Mississippi Society of Nuclear Medicine (1986-2002), Society of Nuclear Cardiology (1999-2002). His Personal Affiliations were; Magee Police Auxiliary (1970-1973) Where he served as Auxiliary Chief for two years. Magee Volunteer Fire Department (1971-1983), Magee Ambulance Service 1982, and Boy Scouts of America (1983- Present) Where over those years he was Cubmaster, Webelos Leader, OA Chapter Advisor, Assistant Scoutmaster, Scout Master, Council Training Staff, and Troop Committee Finance Person.
He Achieved many Awards over his lifetime for his excellence in his Professional Career and Personally. His Professional awards include; Mallinckrodt Award for Outstanding Student in 1970 from the University of Mississippi School of Radiologic Technology, Technologist of the Year in 1980 from Mississippi Society of Radiologic Technologist.
His Dedication to the Boy Scouts of America earned him the District Award of Merit in 1983, Scouter’s Key 1983, Wood badge Training Award 1984, Order of Arrow Vigil Honor in 1990, and the Silver Beaver Award in 1997.
His hobbies included Cooking, Hiking, Woodworking, Computers and especially Spending time with his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dewey Peden; mother, Susie Dell Hightower Spellman; son, David W. Peden; one grandson, Thomas David “Tommy” Peden.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Janet Coats Peden of Magee; one son, John Michael Peden of Winona; seven grandchildren, Jamie P. Chestnut (Kaine), Timmy Peden Harvey, Hollie Thomas (Keith), Haley Mayes (Chadwick), John Michael Peden II, Sunny Peden and Rose Katherine Peden; ten great-grandchildren, Natalie and Garrett Counts; Payton, Thomas, and Carter Harvey; Madelyn Hughes; Preslee and Sage Thomas; CJ and Cassius Mayes; one brother, Dr. Robert “Bobby” Peden and wife, Bonnie,of Baton Rouge, LA; one sister, Lorraine Peden Price and husband, Ricky, of Edwards, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Peden Harvey, John Michael Peden II, Garrett Counts, Kaine Chestnut, Mike Keith, and Brooks Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Childres, Lane Steele, and the men of the Magee Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Magee.
