James Harold Brown, 81 of Mount Olive, Mississippi passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 at his residence in Mount Olive, Mississippi. He was born Tuesday, December 1, 1942 in Smith County, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00am at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Bro. Mack Harrison will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Harold worked for Mendenhall Police Department starting in the early 1970’s, and continued his career in Law Enforcement with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department in the early 1980’s. Serving a total of 30 years, he held many positions which include Deputy, Jailer, and School Resource Officer for Magee Elementary. He was also an EMT for AMR for around 10 years. He loved to be outside especially working in his garden, and could grow some of the prettiest vegetables you would ever see. He was also a great cook, many times using the vegetables picked from his garden. He had a love for the things of Fall, including hunting and football. He was known throughout his community and never met a stranger. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. His family will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jamie Brown; father, John Henry Brown; mother, Ocie Audell Sellers Brown; brother, Rapheal Brown; sisters, Betty McDonald, Judy Brown.
Survivors include his daughters, Katrina Brown Laster (Kenny) and Bridget Brown McKinney (Justin); grandchildren, Amber Cheatham (Jay), Devin Cooper, Reese McKinney and Koby McKinney; great grandchild, Jameson Cheatham; brothers, Ricky Brown (Melinda) and Reggie Brown; sisters, Ann McCleod and Connie Coley; and host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jay Cheatham, Doc Brown, Matthew Lott, Tommy Laster, John Paul Brown, John Lott, and Larry Creason
