James Fredrick “Freddie” Owens
(February 11, 1968 – March 7, 2023)

James Fredrick “Freddie” Owens, 55 of Mendenhall, Mississippi passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at his home in Mendenhall. He was born on Sunday, February 11, 1968, in Jackson, Mississippi.

A celebration of Freddie’s life will take place on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Braxton First Baptist Church in Braxton, Mississippi with a Memorial Service to follow at 3:00 P.M.  Bro. Timothy Carlisle will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Mendenhall City Cemetery at a later date. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Owens; mother, Thelma Marie Thames Adkins; and brother, Willard Welborn.

Survivors include his one daughter, Joanna Owens of D Lo, MS; three grandchildren, Lee Harvey, Pyper Harvey, and Bailee Jo Harvey all of D Lo, MS; fiancé, Shelia Williams Grantham of Mendenhall, MS; three step-daughters, Brandy Grantham (Daniel Stewart), Krystal Grantham May, and Kimberly Grantham all of Mendenhall, MS; two step-grandchildren, Ashley Stewart and Richard Stewart both of Mendenhall, MS; one brother, Wilson Welborn (Stephanie) of Brandon, MS; two sisters, Carolyn Welborn Fortenberry of Magee, MS and Mary E. Welborn (John Wilkerson) of Magee, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and “WILD” friends.

Patrice is married to Greg Boykin and they have two sons, Bradley & Alex Boykin. Patrice is a lifetime resident of Simpson County. Patrice retired after 25 years in the Insurance industry where 23 of those years were with State Farm Insurance in Magee. She is very active in the community and has served in several leadership roles. Patrice has been a Secretary for the Magee Touchdown Club for 19 years and President of the MS Scholars of Simpson County. Patrice was a member of the Magee Adopt A School Program. She was elected to a term on the Simpson County School Board. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Magee Chamber of Commerce. She serves on the Keep Magee Beautiful Committee and is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Simpson County Technical Center. Patrice is a member of the Simpson County Republican Executive Committee. Multiple times, Patrice was named Parent of the Year for Magee Schools as well as District Parent of the Year for the Simpson County School District. Patrice & her family are members of New Hope Baptist Church.
