Thursday, I spent most of the day at McAlister’s promoting their free tea day. I always love seeing different people…and getting to visit.
Today, my life was changed! James Brinsonm who had his leg amputated below the knee a few weeks ago, came into McAlister’s with his brother for lunch. James looked absolutely wonderful…what “caught” me were his eyes. His eyes were so alive and bright. No sign of sadness or remorse was visible on his face. James is a testament to his family and his love for the Lord. I’ve never quite seen or heard such a positive attitude person. He told me, “a leg doesn’t make a man.” I was almost in awe. “I’m going to be fine…sure I’ve got an open heart surgery in a few weeks…but we are going to lick that too.” James went back to work at Lampton Love a few days ago. He said, “I’ll be behind that home plate before you know it.” (James has umpired for years).
Here was this guy I’ve known all his life “standing” before me with nothing but praises. I wonder if he has any idea how he touched my life. Certain “things” make me sad…just like I am sure they do you. I really never know when the sadness is going to come or what will bring that over powering feeling in my life. I had that feeling today. Here I was supposed to put on the happy face when really I wanted to cry out with fear and sadness. Never again…James hit me head on with life. Even when we are sad or scared…God our Lord and Savior is with us. Nothing is too big or powerful for Jesus Christ. James is a walking sermon…and he preached like no one I have ever heard preach. He didn’t preach with a sermon, He spoke volumes with his few soft words. One does not have to be in the pulpit to share.
Oh, James, thank you. Thank you for the light in your eyes. Thank you for making me aware again of how wonderful life is even in the dark times. You are a testament to the world….and if you don’t believe me…just ask him…because he will sure tell you.
It’s all about attitude.
