Margie Baumann remains one of the shining stars in the South’s interior design business.

The American Society of Interior Designers honored the Mississippi College professor with three major awards during its South Central regional conference in Little Rock, Arkansas.

A New Orleans native who lives in Madison, Baumann is starting her 5th year teaching interior design classes on the Clinton campus.

“I love it,” Baumann says.

Consisting of 36,000 members nationwide, the ASID’s South Central region includes Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. The group encourages excellence in the profession, promotes education and communications in the creative field.

On September 24, Baumann was showcased three times at the organization’s Excellence in Design Awards Gala. A silver award came for excellence in impression for the residential kitchen the Mississippi College educator designed. Baumann received a bronze award as a result of the chair that she designed.

In addition, the interior design professor received a presidential citation for her outstanding service in communications as a director on the ASID chapter board.

Mississippi College leaders from Vice President for Academic Affairs Ron Howard to Art Department chairman Randy Miley saluted her accomplishments.

Mandy Berdami, MC’s interior design coordinator, poured on the praise in early October.

Baumann “offers her students a wealth of knowledge because of her experience and involvement in the field,” Berdami said.

Her ability to garner major awards “is proof that MC interior design faculty are dedicated to their profession and strive to make a difference transforming spaces,” she added.

When not working in her field, Margie and her husband, Jeffrey, stay busy raising their one-year-old son.
